Budapest is not all about amazing monuments and ruin bars with fantastic atmosphere, there is much more to it. No, we’re not talking about its movie-like spas or its fantastic cuisine. Well, the latter, perhaps.
Welcome to the city’s best museums. You won’t see any paintings by Rembrandt or Picasso and we rather doubt you’ll find any marble statues carved by Donatello.
You will see sweet rewards for your visit, though, as today we visit Budapest’s best food and drink museums. I’ll pass on to those with a sweet tooth and who are sybarite for spirits.

It doesn’t matter if your favourite painter is Renaissance, and your friends have no idea about art. It doesn’t matter if your partner is a Gothic architecture enthusiast and you know absolutely nothing about the subject. Here’s a museum that will appeal to each and every member of your Budapest getaway.
The chocolate museum, yes, you read that correctly, brings you the complete history of chocolate, from the tools and utensils used to make it to the different modern and traditional techniques used to create it, as well as some historical anecdotes.
But not only that, do you want to leave all that theory aside and get down to practical work? That’s all there is to it. Stop by their 1920s shop to try everything you want and take home a sweet souvenir.
There’s even more. In addition to all the chocolate shapes you can imagine, they have marzipan figures and other sweets to complete a unique visit. The perfect ending? Become an expert and take part in one of their tasty chocolate tastings.

We change our point of view and stop eating. For the moment, just for the moment. It is time to discover one of Budapest’s jewels, as well known and loved as its spas or the Buda Castle.
Let’s delve into the history of the most famous and respected liqueur in the whole country; Unicum. This liqueur, made from Carpathian herbs and spices, is a mainstay of Hungarian culture. And we’re not just saying that, they use it as a digestive at the end of meals and as a home remedy to get rid of a cold.
With this in mind, it will make your visit to the museum that much more special than it already is. Take a walk through its history, the traditional way of obtaining the liqueur and stop by its shop to take home this miraculous liquid.
By the way, don’t miss the opportunity to take part in a Unicum workshop or tasting.

If Unicum is the Hungarian drink par excellence, its second most loved and consumed distillate is Pálinka. Like the aforementioned liqueur, Pálinka is not only part of the daily life of the people of Budapest, but a cornerstone of their culture.
This last stop is not a museum as such. Don’t expect the great sights of the previous visit, because then it will be somewhat disappointing. It is a small place where the history of Pálinka is traced.
From the modern, eye-catching bottles to the original distilling process, everything is explained in detail in this exhibition about one of the most popular flavours in the country.
The best thing about the place? What it is around it. We are talking about a kitchen that will delight all those who are gastronomically curious. Here you can try the most Hungarian dishes accompanied, of course, by your new favourite drink.
And what can we say about the bar? It is a must if your visit to the Pálinka exhibition has aroused your curiosity. They have a wide variety of drinks, both local and international. Although our advice, of course, is to immerse yourself in the local culture and discover every flavour Budapest has to offer.
